I have always been active and into physical fitness. But, when I moved to South Carolina in 1996 I discovered yoga. My journey on the mat has been one full of self-discovery, learning and growth. My teachers are David Swenson, Baron Baptiste, Jonny Kest, Annemarie Kramer, my husband and my son. One of the things I love about yoga is that the journey never ends. There is so much to learn, I will forever be a student.

I began practicing yoga in 2001, one year after I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I started slowly, relying on restorative Iyengar-influenced classes to help strengthen my body as I worked through flare-ups of my disease. More than a decade later, I am blessed to have developed the mental and physical strength to practice several times per week. The wonders of yoga and modern medicine!
I completed my teacher training with Cori Martinez in Ojai, California, and I am thrilled to be able to teach in the community that is so dear to my heart. My classes are based on the concept that you must recharge your strength by tuning in to breath and wisdom, honoring your body where it is in the moment physically and spiritually. Sometimes this may look like powerful practice filled with arm balances and core exercises. Other days, your body may be craving a softer approach. Finding that balance is your yoga.
Dosha constitution: Pitta-Kapha
Most unusual talent: I can speak a sprinkling of Greek and Italian.
I am wife, a writer, a yoga teacher, a public speaker, an Orthodox Christian blog content manager, and mama to two sweet puppies. I stay way too busy, but I love it all.
Most people when they meet me and learn I have four, yes FOUR, daughters express sympathy and roll their eyes. But the truth is, I prayed for four daughters since I was seven and in and out of hospitals for a congenital kidney defect. I wanted a sister to sit in bed with me while I recovered.
It was in those hospital walls that a sweet nurse taught me to breathe deeply as things got tough.
Fast forward several decades and Sara Mingus was my first yoga instructor. The breathing and "staying on my own mat" felt like home. I never left yoga after that first class.
I'm a wife to my favorite human John, momma to Anna, Sally, Tay Tay and Beebe and I, I am a yogi.
Dosha constitution: Vata.
Most unusual talent: I am freakishly good at applying makeup.
I am hopeful.
I am a native Chattanoogan. I have had the joy of teaching yoga for over 8 years. I am also a former yoga studio owner and I love teaching power and yin yoga. I studied kinesiology in my postgraduate studies. My certifications include 200 E-RYT with over 1000+ teaching hours. I am a mental health advocate forming the Yoga for Mental Health Initiative nonprofit in 2016 that helps draw awareness to mental health issues and the benefits of yoga and meditation to aid in recovery and management. I am also a Reiki master and instructor. I am a Legacy Ambassador for Lululemon and most recently a published author. My favorite role is that of wife to Jim and mom to Eli. My class style is energetic and fun. I strive to help students find the joy in their practice.
Dosha constitution: Pitta (all Pitta)
Most unusual talent: Yes, I can juggle. Is the circus hiring?
I am enthusiastic.
I am Lisa McBryde, born and raised a country girl from Jasper, Tennessee and was the son my Dad never had. I wanted to be a nurse for as long as I could remember and followed that dream to become a RN in 1982. My specialty is Oncology and I administer chemotherapy to cancer patients and support them in a very difficult time. I "fell" into yoga and feel it is somewhat the same. I try to teach in such a way that I push the student enough yet feel a connection with every breath they take.
I am a Type A personality and own it 100% so the yin part of practice was initially a challenge, but now is such a welcome release. My initial certification was with Yoga Alliance. I had been teaching in the fitness industry and this option was part of that discipline. I met Sara Mingus and she steered me toward 200 hour teacher training with Dolly Starvos. Dolly and I really connected and my eyes and mind were opened to so many things. This discipline called yoga serves its students individually and meets us where we are. I then completed Level I training with Baron Baptiste and learned so much about sequencing and assisting. I think assisting, the human touch, is a huge part of the practice and I love it.
What started as flexibility training to balance cardio and weight training, has led to this awareness of the breath, the mind and the body, as one, and no two days are the same. I love to say let's work hard but have fun and back off when you need to.
Dosha constitution: Pitta
Most unusual talent: Seven years ago I stepped out on my own to experience something that seemed so beautiful. I discovered a love and passion for fly fishing as it takes you to beautiful, calm places but forces you to focus.
I am a confident, compassionate woman, wife and mother, who truly loves serving others.
Growing up in Chattanooga, I couldn't wait to get out, but after
moving away for a number of years, I couldn't wait to get back and put down roots with my husband Joe. We work a lot and keep demanding schedules, so yoga always holds space in the calendar as a refuge from our daily chaos. I enjoy being part of our community and Chattanooga's exciting trajectory. As a yoga instructor, we get to see people transform first hand and it is truly a gift; I am inspired
by the people that show up and roll out their mats day after day. We love getting outside and on the water with family and friends as much as possible. We don't have as much free time as we'd like, but when we do, you can find us climbing and wakeboarding.
My dosha is Pitta.
One of my talents is connecting with a wide variety of people.
I am energetic.
As a yoga instructor, I feel a deep passion for practicing and teaching. Yoga empowers me to find my inner strength both on and off my mat. It helps me live my life with mindfulness and joy, as well as reach a balance of healthy body and peaceful mind. I am honored and overjoyed to share my love of yoga with each and every one of my students.
I am a graduate of University of Tennessee Chattanooga. I hold an E-RYT 200 and will complete my RYT 500 certification through Yoga Alliance in August 2017. I live on Signal Mountain and enjoy all my time spent with my husband Kevin and our two children, Olive and Reed. Namaste.

I came to yoga in college for the physical practice but stuck with it through all the subsequent seasons of life because of the healing I found from the practice, not just physical but mental/emotional/spiritual as well. SSY is my yoga home. Sara was one of the first teachers I ever had when I was just beginning my yoga journey. I completed my 200hr training through Hot Yoga Plus in Chattanooga in 2015 and have been teaching ever since. I strive to make my class challenging, grounding, and most importantly holistically healing. I live in the East Lake neighborhood in Chattanooga with my wonderful husband, Tim, and two children, Will (3) and Frannie (1). In addition to teaching yoga, I teach high school Spanish and French at Chattanooga Christian School. I love my jobs and I deeply love my students - both my high schoolers and yogis!

I am humbled by what my Yoga practice brings to my mat that parallels what's going on in my life..
Namaste, friends! I came to yoga as a “workout” to complement running. I quickly fell in love with it, as it has given me so much more than I could ever have imagined. I don’t mind saying that my yoga has brought me closer to God; my spirituality continues to flourish as I delve deeper into my practice and studies; into the stillness.
In addition to my 200 RYT, I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s in education, and many post-grad hours in applied behavior analysis (I love to learn!). I am currently working towards my 300 hour RYT (Asheville Yoga Center) and a certification in fitness nutrition.
Friends say I am an “eternal encourager”. I think that fits, as I was a cheerleader from my elementary through college years; and I am eternally optimistic! My mission for my students is to empower passion, balance & gratitude; and motivate freedom to grow.
One of my favorite quotes is “Between stimulus & response there is a space. In the space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Yoga helps us to slow down and have awareness of this space.
i am: a daughter, wife, mother, lover of life, and I am overflowing with gratitude
YA Registered Yoga Instructor
I first stepped onto my mat in a time of injury and illness; a knee injury as well as a multitude of medications for colon issues and digestion. After my first practice, I knew Yoga was what I had been pursuing mentally and physically. My practice is very personable and passionate; a continued practice provides me with joy every day, balance on and off my mat. My goal through instruction is to share all aspects of enlightenment that I have been fortunate enough to obtain; to grow mentally and physically sustaining a healthy lifestyle and effectively guide students to embark upon positive transitions at any level.
I received my 230 Hour Certification through Stephanie Keech, Asheville Yoga Center.

Sally Bacon's favorite part about teaching yoga is sharing her passion with the people in her home town. Since she began teaching in 2010, Sally has taught over 2000 hours and several styles of yoga, including power yoga, ashtanga, yin, restorative, and meditation. Over the many years of her yoga journey, she has learned to appreciate all eight limbs of yoga, and lately, she's really enjoyed exploring the seventh limb, meditation.
Sally gives credit to the practice of yoga as she considers her inner transformation and where this journey is taking her. She's been through times of hiding from herself with poor judgment and bad decisions; and she's witnessed the healing that comes from years of dedicated practice of cleansing and calming the mind with yoga.
If you're looking for a challenging yoga class with a balance of strength, lengthening, and yoga philosophy, try Sally's heated Power Yoga class Monday 6pm.

3)I am: rateful for my life truly and all the people in it especially my hubs, doggy and piggi
My yoga journey began in 2003. I began to feel the difference yoga had in my life as soon as I started practicing. Soon after I was hooked and knew I wanted to teach. I felt inspired to share the gift of yoga with others. I believe the mind, body, soul connection is a powerful one and that we can use yoga postures like keys to unlock doors in our bodies to ground that connection even more. My favorite part about yoga is that its roots are in healing. I aspire to teach my classes from the heart and the premise that we all have something to heal, creating an uplifting, sacred, energizing environment for students to begin to explore and expand within their own body and soul.

I have always been curious about how the body and mind affect each other and when I found Yoga, it was clear that this was a powerful path and practice to experience this relationship. I love exploring and encouraging the adventure/fire of "the edge" of what awakens you so that you may experience more moments of energy and contentment. Guiding you inward towards an intuitive, deep yoga flow that challenges your physical and mental stamina balanced with nurturing spacious openings of your body/mind is the essence of what may be felt in my classes and private body/mind sessions.
